Winter’s Embrace
January 2024
Brockway-Hawthorne Preserve
Winter hiking can get pretty drab if there’s not much snow. When I saw this snow on the tree stump, it looked like a heart. With a little help from me, I formed it a little better for this photo💕
Mt. Archer Woods – Tulip Tree Grove in Winter
February – 2024
Mt. Archer Woods Preserve
There are actually a couple of tulip tree groves in this group of preserves – one in Mt. Archer and the other bordering the Eno and Mt. Archer preserves. This photo was taken, I believe, on trail AW in the southwest section of the Mt. Archer preserve. I love the forest depth and textures that shine through on an otherwise drab day.
Volunteers needed
Are you looking for a creative volunteer opportunity-without heavy lifting?
We are looking for a volunteer to help us with ideas, outreach, and the administration of our Imagining Lyme Photography program. An interest in photography and experience with publicity and social media would be helpful.
The program is three years old! We have a dynamic, interactive website with photography tips and videos from Joe Standart and guest photographers. Over the years, wonderful photos of our preserves and natural spaces have been submitted by amateur photographers to our showcase gallery featured on the Imagining Lyme website. The photos are also featured in Lyme Land Trust and Town of Lyme publications and media.
We would like to invite new energy to help us expand this program, and get more people involved and excited about taking photographs. Please let us know if you are interested in helping promote this wonderful creative program that celebrates the natural beauty of Lyme’s preserves and backyards.
Contact info@lymelandtrust.org
Deadline for Winter submissions is March 31, 2024
Submit up to three of you favorite photos to share. The Lyme Land Trust program Imagining Lyme: A Visual Exploration of Lyme’s Preserves encourages everyone to expand their visual awareness and highlight the beauty of the Lyme preserves owned by the Lyme Land Trust, the Town of Lyme and the Nature Conservancy by taking photographs prompted by inspiration from professional photographers and artists. Amateur photographers may submit photos. Photographers do not have to be residents of Lyme but all photos must be taken in Lyme in any of these places:
- Lyme Preserves owned and/or managed by the Lyme Land Trust, Town of Lyme, The Nature Conservancy, and the State of CT. View a map of the preserves
- Pollinator/wildlife habitat with native plants in Lyme – May be in a backyard, preserve or in a Lyme Pollinator Pathway garden in Lyme, CT.
- Trail 53 – The clear sky above Lyme.
